Events: NYFA Distance Consultations
Skype with our Doctors on Tuesday, May 27, 2014
New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) is pleased to offer Distance Consultations, a program designed to provide support for international artists based outside the United States and U.S.-based artists living outside of NYC. The Distance Consultations Program was developed to address the needs of artists who are unable to attend our popular Doctor’s Hours program onsite, at NYFA’s offices in Brooklyn.
Participants in Distance Consultations may book one-on-one individual appointments with NYFA consultants via Skype. The sessions provide an opportunity for practical advice and feedback on presentation of your work, your website, or an upcoming application.
For this session, twenty-four appointments will be available on Tuesday, May 27 from 10 AM–4 PM EST. Each appointment costs US $50 for 30 minutes, and participants are limited to two appointments each.

Nina Horisaki-Christens, Curator and Writer
Nina Horisaki-Christens is a curator and writer based in Brooklyn, NY. As a 2012-13 Helena Rubinstein Curatorial Fellow of the Whitney Museum of American Art’s Independent Study Program, she co-curated Maintenance Required at The Kitchen (NY, 2013). She also served as Assistant Curator and Interim Curator at Art in General (NY) where she produced numerous projects with artists including Shana Moulton, Dave Hardy, Peter Rostovsky and Olav Westphalen, Isola and Norzi, Guy Benfield, Julia Oldham, Bozena Koncic Badurina, Joyce Kim and Carlos Roque. Horisaki-Christens was a 2008-09 Lori Ledis Curatorial Fellow at BRIC Rotunda Gallery, and has curated exhibitions independently at various non-profits including Smack Mellon and Nurture Art. She has contributed to publications produced by Phaidon, The Whitney Museum of American Art, Independent Curators International, Art21.com, Flux Factory, and Art in General. From 2012-13, Horisaki-Christens worked as Research Assistant on Gutai: Splendid Playground at the Guggenheim Museum and she was Curator-in-Residence at Seoul Art Space Geumcheon in Summer 2013, where she researched emerging- to mid-career Korean performance and media artists, as well as the histories of experimental art and activism in Korea. She is currently an MA/PhD student in Art History at Columbia University, where her research focuses on the relationship between performance and media art in Japan from the mid-60’s through the 70’s.
David Goodman, Artist, Curator, Director of Projects and Programs, Critical Practices Inc.
David is an artist and curator living in New York City. Goodman’s work is focused on mapping his history through pattern and form. His approach to a project is in a manner comparable to archeology (the reconstruction of the visual landscape premised on its trace.) Curatorial projects include Skowheghan School of Painting and Sculpture (20-Year Anniversary Exhibition), JUDD Foundation (Food&Fodder) and the web-series of collections In Context To Others (2012). He actively participates in education as a visiting artist/critic and adjunct faculty (RISD, Rowan University, Pratt, SVA). Goodman helped found Critical Practices Inc (CPI, 2011) with Saul Ostrow and Susan Bowman, and currently is part of its Executive Board (Secretary) and is the Director of Projects and Programs. Recent past exhibitions and shows include the curatorial projects Out To See, curated by Sara Reisman, An Ambition: Habit (Miami 2013) and An Ambition: Defference (Studio Vendome, NYC, 2014), AIM Biennial (Bronx Museum of Fine Arts), The New Museum (NYC), 21StProjects (NYC), BoxoProjects (NYC, Joshua Tree,CA), LaunchF18 (NYC), and District Foundation (Berlin). Included in the International Collage Center’s permanent collection, Goodman is a Bronx Museum AIM Fellow (2012), Post-Studio Tales residency-as-exhibition recipient (Berlin 2012), and BoxoHouse Residency (Joshua Tree, CA 2013). He has provided creative development and interviews for BOMB Magazine’s online platforms, directed full content for Artlog.com, exhibition reviews for BlackBook Magazine and editorial for PerfectWave Magazine. Currently participating in the 2014 Whitney Biennial (CPI), Goodman completed his MFA at Indiana University (Bloomington, IN ‘01) and BFA at Boston University (CFA, ’99).
Meenakshi Thirukode, Curator, Writer and Artist
Meenakshi was recently appointed as the Creative Director at Dakshinachitra (Chennai, India), a leading museum focusing on the culture of South India. She has contributed to various publications including The Hindu, Whitewall Magazine, Art Asia Pacific, Art India, Art and Deal Magazine, Art Journal, Artmap Magazine (China), Of Note Magazine and Grassroots Literature Blog. Concurrent to independent curatorial projects in New York and India, Thirukode is the founding member and co-curator of Project For Empty Space, a public-art initiative that brings art into abandoned and unusual urban spaces with a focus on community building and art education. Thirukode served on the board of SAWCC (South Asian Womens Creative Collective) and is currently on the Christie’s Alumni Society Board, Christie’s, NYC. Meenakshi is a member of AICA (International Association of Art Critics) as well as IKT (International Association of Contemporary Art Curators).
