Apply Now | NYFA Fiscal Sponsorship: Out-of-Cycle Review

Apply by March 1 for expedited access to unique funding opportunities in New York State.

Artists and non-profit organizations in New York State, did you know that funding from The New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) can give you a leg up on making your artist project a reality? There’s one key step you need to take in order to be eligible as an individual artist: securing a fiscal sponsor. NYFA accepts applications quarterly for its Fiscal Sponsorship program, and conducts Out-of-Cycle Reviews on an ongoing basis to accommodate all timelines, including deadlines for NYSCA.

What is NYSCA? The New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) preserves and expands diverse cultural resources across the state. Grantmaking is central to this mission, and in the last Fiscal Year (FY), NYSCA awarded $41 million to 2,400 organizations through direct grants and regrants. Arts organizations and individual artists located in New York State can apply for grant funding on an annual basis.

How do I know if I qualify? Check out the FY2020 Grant Guidelines. There are 16 different funding programs and each program has a different set of guidelines. This funding is open to New York State residents with projects occurring within the state, and you must be a pre-qualified nonprofit organization or have a fiscal sponsor in order to apply. Individual artists should review the Individual Artist program guidelines.

What is Fiscal Sponsorship?

A fiscal sponsor is required for application to the Individual Artist NYSCA grants. NYFA Fiscal Sponsorship is a fundraising and administrative tool available to artists and arts organizations in all disciplines and locations. Sponsorship allows you to use NYFA’s charitable status to apply for grants and corporate sponsorship, and offer donors the benefit of a tax deduction.

How does NYFA’s Out-of-Cycle Review work?
In order to help meet grant deadlines, NYFA Fiscal Sponsorship offers an expedited Out-of-Cycle Review application. There is a two-week turnaround time and a $175 administrative fee for Out-of-Cycle applications. NYFA is accepting Out-of-Cycle applications for NYSCA through March 1. Fiscal sponsorship status must be acquired before applying to the NYSCA grant for many categories. Be sure to review the NYSCA guidelines to determine your eligibility.

If you want to apply for NYSCA’s funding, you must apply for Out-of-Cycle Review with NYFA Fiscal Sponsorship by March 1.
