Jan Garden Castro, Art Historian and Critic                           
Jan Garden Castro is a contributing editor for Sculpture Magazine (16cover stories), Ceramics Art and Perception, and otherperiodicals; author of The Art & Life of Georgia O’Keeffe, SoniaDelaunay: La Moderne, two poetry books; an arts lecturer andessayist; and co-editor of two books. Castro’s fields span art history, worldliteratures, and philosophy. Her writings, some at www.Sculpture.org (main websiteand “In the Studio” blog) and at http://www.JanCastro.com,cover a range of topics, media, and world cultures. Castro has written aboutemerging to eminent artists, including Louise Bourgeois, Eric Fertman, ZangHuan, Maya Lin, Alexander McQueen, Bruce Nauman, Cecilia Paredes, Soo SunnyPark, Martin Puryear, Cai Guo-Qiang, Ursula von Rydingsvard, Nari Ward, KikiSmith, Swoon, Mariko Mori, Wangechi Mutu, and Sanford Biggers . She hasresearched art in Paris and Peru and has curated a traveling exhibition inJapan. Before moving to New York, Castro won two national awards as well aslocal awards as a co-founder, executive director, editor, and program directorfor River Styx, a St. Louis-based nonprofit arts corporation focusing onmulticultural, intermedia arts programs in performance and in print. Castro was recently a scholar in Residence at the University of Hawaii, Hilo. She is co-curator, with Eileen Jeng, of New Ways of Seeing: Beyond Culture, opening at the Dorsky Gallery on May 3, 2015.

Erik Hougen, Artistic Director/Master Printer at the Lower East Side
Printshop
Hougen is an artist, educator, and Printer. Currently he serves as Artistic Director/Master
Printer at the Lower East Side Printshop in New York City where he brings a
wide range of technical expertise to his collaborations with artists. He has
over 5 years of experience collaborating with artists of all media to create
limited edition prints. Recent collaborations include Derrick Adams, Alison
Elizabeth Taylor, Hank Willis Thomas, Kate Shepherd, Ryan McGinness, and Jennie
C. Jones. Additionally he teaches printmaking courses at Pratt Institute,
Brooklyn Art Space, and Lower East Side Printshop. As an artist he has
exhibited at Planthouse, The Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, Bronx
Museum, IPCNY, The National Arts Club, and Kunsthalle Galapagos. He is
currently the Artist in Resident at Kunsthalle Galapagos, was a SIP Resident at
the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, an artist in Residence at Brooklyn
Art Space, and participated in the Artist in the Marketplace program. He
received a BFA from Minnesota State University, Moorhead, and an MFA from Pratt
Institute, Brooklyn.  

Sara Jones, Curator, Co-Founder of Kind Aesthetic
Sara, is an artist, curator and educator living and working in Brooklyn, NY. In
2012, she co-founded Kind Aesthetic, a creative agency that uses art, design
and communal action to give voice to ideas so that they can exist and thrive in
the real world, and developed DELVE, a suite of services and events that helps
artists and creatives best communicate what they do in person, online and in
writing. Her work has been shown nationally and internationally and was
included in New American Paintings, #104, Northeast Edition in 2013. She
received her MFA from the joint degree program at the School of the Museum of
Fine Arts, Boston and Tufts University, and her BA from Connecticut College.
She has taught drawing, painting and illustration at Pratt Institute and has
worked as a curator and exhibition designer for the Irwin S. Chanin School of
Architecture at The Cooper Union. She is also a member of the artist and
curatorial collective ||| (3-art). 

Jason A. Maas Founder & Director of the Artist Volunteer Center
Jason is an artist, educator, and arts nonprofit director. He founded the Artist Volunteer Center (www.avcenter.org) in 2013, a nonprofit that connects artists with humanitarian volunteer opportunities. His work is dedicated to supporting artists who get involved in community projects and create socially-conscious work through grants, residencies, and shows.

Jason was classically trained as a figurative painter, and since Hurricane Sandy and his involvement in the relief effort, his current studio practice has expanded to include social practice, multiple media and performance. He has over ten years’ experience in college and K-12 art teaching. His artwork has been shown nationally and internationally, including the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, the Noyes Museum, Governor’s Island Art Fair, and Smack Mellon. www.jasonamaas.com  
       
Margaret
Mathews-Berenson,
Curator, Art Educator, and Art Advisor
Margaret Mathews-Berenson is an independent curator and art
educator with special expertise in contemporary art and photography. She founded her own
business in 1984 following a career in museum work (Philadelphia Art Museum and Metropolitan Museum of
Art) and in book publishing. Since then,she has curated numerous exhibitions for museums, galleries
and non-profit institutions throughout the United States and abroad. From 1997 to 1998, she was
director of the Drawing Society and editor-in-chief of Drawing
magazine. An accomplished lecturer and writer, her articles have been published
in ARTS,American
Artist, The Pastel Journal and
Sculpture magazine. Through her tour
company, Art Today, she provides VIP and special-access tours of the contemporary
art scene in New York and other cultural cities. She is currently on the faculty of the 92nd Street
Y in New York. 

Jessica L. Porter, Director of Porter Contemporary, Curator
As
Director of Porter Contemporary Jessica L. Porter is responsible for the
overall strategy, business development and market growth, marketing and
communications as well as talent acquisition and development. Her
background and experience in foreign languages, museum curating,
international sales and marketing and law have created a strong basis for
entrepreneurial leadership and business growth.Porter has also maintained her
own consulting company, launched in 2001, utilizing her art and law background
focusing on assisting companies, galleries and individuals to navigate the
start up phase of their business or grow their existing business. Porter also
teaches courses on the basics of art collecting, counsels artists on creating a
career strategy and juries and curates exhibitions for other organizations,
galleries and institutions. She has spoken as an expert on CNBC on art
collecting and investment of emerging artists, to the Harvard Business Women’s
Association on starting an art collection, a contributing writer to the
Creativity Post and has participated in panel discussions on such topics
as Art & Music, Women in the Art Industry and Contemporary Visions of
Picasso. Porter’s natural networking skills combined with strategic event
planning and social marketing have made her a leader in the growth of her own
business as well as other organizations. Porter grew her own following for
Porter Contemporary to over 10,000 in the first 4 years of opening. In
addition, Porter founded EASL (Entertainment Art &Sports Law) at the
University of Maryland, School of Law from a group of four to over 400. She
also founded and grew Raandesk Women, a private group of intellectual
women leaders in NYC and Shopping for Art, a group focused on buying art
for fun.Porter has a resounding commitment to being a leader and resource to
other women and is the Co-Chair of Fundraising to the Leadership Advisory Board
for the Girl Scouts of Greater New York and is the Co-Chair of Programming at
ArtTable, the primary women’s leadership organization in the arts.  

Ariel Shanberg, Executive Director at the Center for Photography at Woodstock, Art Critic
Serving as the Executive Director at the Center for Photography at Woodstock
since 2003, Ariel Shanberg provides the organizational vision and leadership
and working with CPW’s staff, board of directors, and volunteers, brings forth
CPW’s offerings in creation, discovery, and learning. Shanberg organizes CPW’s
year-round exhibition program including inviting guest curators and selecting
solo exhibition artists. In addition he oversees CPW’s various programs
including a 16-year old residency program for artists of color working in the
photographic arts, a fellowship award which supports artists living and working
in upstate New York, professional traditional and digital workspace, and more.
In addition Ariel has guest-curated exhibitions at the Dorsky Museum of Art,
the Islip Art Museum, the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center, the Houston Center
for Photography, and at the Light Factory. His writings on artists including
John Coplans, Lucas Foglia, Jeffrey Milstein, Hillerbrand + Magsamen, and
Angelika Rinnhofer have been published in such publications as Aspect – The
Chronicle for Media Art, Contact Sheet, European Photography, Nueva Luz,
Photograph, and to accompany exhibition catalogs. He has been an invited critic
& speaker at various organizations and schools including Syracuse
University, Bucknell College, School of Visual Arts, FIT, Mason Gross School of
the Arts, and Parsons New School of Design. He has served as a panelist and
speaker at numerous public events including the inaugural UNSEEN Photo Art
Fair/Festival in Amsterdam, Photo Plus Expo, and as a portfolio reviewer at
FotoFest, Photolucida, Review Santa Fe, the International Center for
Photography, and at Portfolio Review Russia in Moscow Russia, among others.  

Debra Vanderburg Spencer, Curator, Art Historian
Along with being a curator and art historian Debra also has a background in
arts administration and policy. Residing in New York City, she also advises
private collectors on acquisitions, management and care of collections. Her
current clients include The William J. Clinton Foundation, NY; Museum of the
National Center of Afro-American Artists, Boston; New York University’s Faculty
Resource Center; and Galleries at The Interchurch Center as Guest Curator of a
series of five annual borough-specific exhibitions showcasing the diversity of
professional artists in NYC (2012-2016). As Exhibitions Manager, the Schomburg
Center/NY Public Library, she drafted their Policy for Permanent, Temporary and
Traveling Exhibitions. In her capacity as Director of Special Projects, NY
State Council on the Arts, Spencer played a major role in restructuring the
agency’s grant making policies. She has been a consultant to the Harlem Arts
Alliance, and a panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), NY
State Council on the Arts and the Harlem 125th Street Business Improvement
District’s arts panel. Spencer has directed arts projects for the U.S. Congress
and the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities. She received two
NEA Fellowships in Arts Management, and is a member of the American Alliance of
Museums and International Council on Museums. Spencer holds a Master’s Degree
from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education (Administration,
Planning and Social Policy), with adjunct studies in Filmmaking, Massachusetts
Institute of Technology; The Museum of Fine Arts School, Boston (Drawing,
Painting); Harvard University (Art History) and Western Michigan University
(Art History).

Ryan Steadman,
Curator
Brooklyn-based artist, writer, and curator Ryan E. Steadman has shown his paintings regularly since 2001, with solo exhibitions at Baumgartner Gallery, Envoy Enterprises and Karma, all in Manhattan. His work has also been included in group exhibitions at Greenberg van Doren Gallery and Room East, among others. Steadman has been a regular contributor to artforum.com and Modern Painters since 2011. In this short time, he has reviewed exhibitions by acclaimed artists such as Agnes Denes and Eugen Schoenebeck, as well as written essays on New York-based artists as diverse as Anthony Goicolea and Ethan Greenbaum. After having curated exhibitions in various spaces in Boston and New York, Steadman was recently appointed curatorial advisor to the UNTITLED Art Fair in Miami Beach, where he is also organizing the artist-run and non-profit sections of the fair. Before this, he worked for such well-known galleries as Feature Inc. and Peter Freeman Inc. Steadman earned an MFA from Pratt Institute in 1999, and a BFA from University of Georgia in 1997.

Sarah Walko, Program Director

Sarah Walko is
an artist and director of arts organizations. She is currently the Program
Director of Marble
House Project
, a non profit arts organization in New York
City and Dorset, Vermont. Previous to this she was Executive Director of
Triangle Arts Association. Prior to moving to New york city she was Curator of
Savannah College of Art and Design. Her fiction and non fiction essays have
been published by While Whale Review Literary Journal and Hyperallergic Art
Blog where she is a regular contributing writer. She continues to do
independent curatorial projects and recently curated shows at galleries such as
Fridman Gallery in Manhattan and Radiator Arts in Long Island City. She has
participated in many artists residency programs including IPark and the
Elizabeth Foundation. This past year she was invited visiting artist at
Savannah College of Art and Design and Roger Williams College. She is currently
working on new sculpture/installations, film and other curatorial
projects.
